Hydrodynamic Behavior Analysis of Agitated-Pulsed Column by CFD-PBM

Recently, a newly designed type of energy-input extraction column, agitated-pulsed column (APC), has been achieved high mass-transfer efficiency due to the small-size droplets and dispersed-phase holdup. In view lack feasible population-balance-model (PBM) kernel functions in APC, parameter optimization is conducted by simplified PBM method. Then optimized are implemented computational fluid-dynamics (CFD) code investigate local two-phase flow behaviors 25 mm APC. The results show that CFD-PBM successfully predicts drop-size distribution measured experiments. also gives good prediction Sauter mean diameter illustrated understand effects operating conditions on hydrodynamic performance. This work demonstrates possibility for combination CFD simulation.
